Who We Are

POSCIMUR (meaning "we are called .....") was formed in 1991 with the specific aim of singing services in cathedrals. Since its inception the choir has sung in more than thirty of the English Cathedrals - several times in most of them. Although the choir is essentially based in South East London and practises there regularly, members are drawn from across the country, learning the music in their own time. The choir, affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music, sings at approximately ten venues annually. It does not receive any grants or financial assistance and holds one fund-raising event each year.

Our Founder

Cathie Shore

Poscimur was founded by the late Cathie Shore, who was our Director for over 25 years. Cathie studied at the Royal College of Music and at the University of London Institute of Education. She was organist of a number of churches in the London and North Kent area and had recently retired after many years teaching music in schools, latterly as Head of Department.
She was a loved and respected teacher of organ/piano and voice and worked as an educational consultant running courses for teachers as well as a chief/principal examiner for GCSE, Trinity London and RSCM

Our Organists

Over the years, many talented organists have accompanied the choir and new organists are always getting in touch to add themselves to that distinguished list.

The cathedrals that we sing in require and expect a very high standard of singing and an equally high standard of musicianship and technical ability when it comes to playing the organ.

All our organists are carefully tested before they accompany us in a live setting. If you'd like to be considered as an organist for Poscimur, please click the button below.
